You know lately I've been doing some thinking, if we go back to 07 when we started hosting servers the only reason we started is because our favorite server shut down and there wasn't any other server which we found fun to play. So I'd like to start out with that I really haven't had that much fun playing PERP lately and the people which I used to enjoy it with no longer play or play together in the way we all used to. So lets move to the creation of ExiledServers, in an expansion of our original reason of hosting a server we decided that we didn't like the clan we were part of so we decided to make our own community to do it better.



In April of 08 we decided to see how far a couple of ambitious, lucky and some what smart 15 year olds could go with a community in an attempt to do what others had been doing wrong, right. Jumping straight in we settled for a .net for the name which we thought of as the perfect irony despite being similar to X1L3D's name which neither of us cared for but decided it was already too late to change our names. We soon had our flagship server Zombie Outbreak running and within a month we put up the other servers we had been hosting at X1's house under the same name as well and had quickly grown to a running community successfully leaving the clan and taking whatever wasn't the worthless shit which we had left.

We were now a running community with everything set to go, we made enough to make it by and we all loved it. However it had been since summer of 07 which we had been playing ZS, with the summer of 09 soon ending X1L3D had stopped playing ZS because it was boring to him and I was beginning to get the same thing. Azu asked me to test something with him and had me join PERP, I up until that point had hated RP and found it fucking stupid. We exploited our way to a few cars at night when no one was on since PERP still hadn't quite taken off and called it good. Hunts deleted our accounts and permabanned both of us and then unbanning both of us shortly.

About July of 09 I was looking for some servers to screw around on when I saw that PERP server up at the top of the server list with the most players. Of course I figured I would join it and see what's up, I soon decided that I needed a car and wanted to run everyone over. But then I discovered that you really didn't need to roleplay in the sense that I had thought you had to do in roleplay servers and found out it was essentially what we know as Lite. I thought this sounded fun so I dumped my join cash into an org and convinced the admins, donators and close friends of mine to join and give me their join cash so I could get a BMW to drive us around in. We built The Exiled Ones out of 95% outside players with the exceptions of a couple people we met. We then allied with the two other orgs which had been on top in the server. Blood Money and The Greasers helped us literally put down every single org which was on that server and we literally destroyed everything with only a couple wallhacking players. We raided every single person who grew on the server and soon enough for a month or so literally no one grew in the server at all since we had an almost constant presence of 5-25 people, in a near full server.

Sometime around here I had gotten quite bored of the ZS server I no longer played and told everyone that Outbreak is over and I handed the gamemode over to three of my most trusted administrators to do with whatever they wanted. This created Zombie Invasion which was short lived.

September and October this caught up to us and we soon started dropping like flies from permabans for whatever reason, there wasn't a day which one of us wasn't banned for some reason. We soon enough all got banned because two of us used ESP then unbanned when Avaster decided to make Blackfur his bitch by taking out the server. Blackfur gave in within the hour and we were all unbanned again. We continued to play up until Stan had taken a nice presence in the server and noticed that Stan had some fun commands put on the PERP servers to do whatever he wanted with them. Avaster had told us about how Stan had done the same to Sassilization and how "g_gold" gave you Sass money. Soon enough we had found that "d_item" gave you items and started to abuse the fuck out of it, later that day I got bored and decided to find other d commands. I had soon found "d_tornado" while standing at the bank and with the spawn of a tornado on bank the server shut down 10 seconds later and we were all permabanned once again. Later that week CaM who gave Avaster the booter he used apparently struck a deal with Blackfur to remove Stan from their box and during doing this downloaded their servers as collateral just in case. Blackfur chargebacked the money he paid to CaM and soon enough there was some shit in iframes stuck on their site. CaM offered me their gamemodes but I only took GMR since it was all I was interested in because I thought it would be something cool to host since I had played it back in late 08 when Pulsar Effect didn't even exist yet.

I had hammered out GMR and gotten it to work and put in the cool shit which we had made for Outbreak if it could work. At the time we were once again hosting SledBuild, Sandbox and OS:E. Since it was all at X1L3D's house we soon figured out this server we made to fuck around with a few friends was hugely popular. Running through 1TB soon enough Comcast told him to stop and we rented a really cheap box for our GMR server from the donation money we made. We soon realized that this wouldn't do as it didn't handle 25 people and we still had to host our servers at X1's. However this had lasted a couple months and soon enough we had enough donation money to get something nice at limestone like we originally had for Outbreak. About a week after that which was the beginning of December 09 M.I.A came along out of no where and offered me $100 to setup PERP for him since I had a working GMR server. I took the money, set it up and literally a day later he disappeared for the next 6 months. This left me, Crazy Ivan, Joe and some 12 year old brit named Mark to figure out what to do. Being the only person who knew how to do shit like this I took it upon my self to tell them what was going to happen and I decided to host PERP for them. But soon enough came the donation issue so to make sure donations went to paying for the box it was hosted on instead of the three of them I hooked it all up to my donation system, on top of that JOE was going to help pay for it.

Soon enough we figured M.I.A was never coming back and I merged them into us and Mystery came along since the four of them were the only people behind M.I.A anyways. Within a couple days hunts rushed out PERP2 since there was now a running PERP1.5 server which didn't suck ass. I took it upon myself to fix every single exploit we had ever used in PERP and to balance out some things and keep the gamemode as close to the late Pulsar Effect's it had ever been when we liked it. Ever since then I'd like to say that I've worked to make the most polished, balanced and working PERP1.5 based server which has existed. Sure I've added some things here and there which I kinda hoped would improve upon it but it's still PERP1.5. From in between here and now everything we have been has been because of you as the player. Communities are truly only as good their players, although "players" cannot be blamed as it's our jobs as the staff to be responsible to sort out and solve this. I'd like to know where we went wrong but truly I believe that the downtime we have been has only been delaying this nagging thought in the back of my head ever since the linux downtime thanks to valve.

Which brings us back to here and now which is kind of funny because when I stopped with Outbreak it was broken by an update and I just didn't feel like doing the 30 minutes of work on the script since it had been slowly declining in popularity because of other ZS servers overshadowing our old school version which we were the last server left using. With the incoming Gmod beta which I could certainly fix up the GUI in 30 minutes and any other issues which have come to light in the same way I could have Outbreak. Which is kind of funny since everyone these days is putting up some shitty edited PERP2/PERP3 server as well. Back then I had decided that Outbreak's time had come and passed and I'm still quite sad over that Outbreak just went quietly into the night when we were once the most popular server.

So once again we are going to retire our pride and joy, our flagship and what we have become. You might think that despite that if it were online it would have at least 30 players but the thing is that it doesn't have much of a place left in Gmod in this age, it's time for something to fill it's place and frankly I'm not liking what has been doing that for quite a while. I don't think I exactly care for what Garry's Mod had become, it's not a place for myself anymore. There's been a lot of idiotic talk that "Gmod is dying" and shit like that but frankly it's not dying. It's just becoming a place where the places you had known for quite a while are no longer there, a place where nothing is the same and how what you once enjoyed will never be the same. Our time has passed and we can't do anything about that but change. But more underlying issues come about with this, the people who were once what we created are no longer around. X1L3D has left to do other things in life and I'm quite bored of what we are now and have little motivation to change that. Even if we were to come back we would only be ensuring a steady eventual decline. It's not even so much that we are dying than everything around us is changing.

I looked at ExiledServers as a place where I could try to keep a piece of Gmod alive which had escaped the rest of it, OS:E was a pretty damn fun gamemode which was what Garry's Mod was once all about, SledBuild was like this as well. Before you ask, no I'm not giving my gamemodes to anybody. In something which I've noted which causes me to come to this conclusion as well is that I can't think of a single person which I respect, trust or look up to enough to give them anything I have made for ExiledServers. Banana Lord has the gameserver gamemodes and I'll pass to him the little scripts which we've used between all the servers, as far as PERP there isn't a person left who deserves to run this gamemode let alone one who could.

I'm rather proud of what we did here. We've stood against every gmod exploit, almost every DoS attack to the best of anyone's ability, every attempt to break into the box, every attempt to leak what we had, every attempt to take us down. We are the only community I can think of which has never had a gamemode leak, database wipe, root accessed or everything lost. We ran bi-daily backups which we had to use twice which only one was because an exploit which took 10 minutes to throw up a backup and fix the exploit. I've done the best damn job that I could and I just don't think there's a place for us to be anymore. We filled our little niche perfectly and most people have just sorta moved on.

You know what, personally I think it's even better for us to to do this. At least it will finally prove something which will be if we actually succeeded in our goals to create a place which is to be somewhere which set out to do what many in the past had failed or had/have not been doing very well. Who knows, it's really more of a personal thing for you to gauge what you thought of us. I know that for myself there won't be another place like ExiledServers ever again, some will try to imitate and will sputter, burn and die of a horrible failure. The only thing which I ask of anyone is for people to learn from rather than imitate, everything has a time of which it must end and those who do not will disappear with a meaningless existence. We've been here for the last 3 years to try to give you a place to play which didn't suck like all the rest but It's apparent that somewhere we went wrong. I don't know yet if it was my fault or if it was just time, however I'd like to not focus on that but rather focus on what we've lost instead. Maybe one day a few of you will aspire to set out to do what we did, I don't know but even if you don't then I suppose we really haven't meant shit.

I might say that I don't know a lot but one thing I do know is that I haven't a single regret for a second of what we've done, I've done what I've wanted to do and accomplished what others didn't seem to be able to in my eyes. If you share that, cool it's been fun playing with you. If not? Yeah, well fuck you.

Yeah, that ain't happening. Apparently the attacks have been up to 4gbps to both .180 and .181. There wouldn't be a chance in hell the box would even stay online under that so for once a null route is pretty much our best solution.

So valve decided that the network protocol needs to be upped another number again, this means Gatekeeper broke and for the last day we've been using the backup ban system. When this happens I normally only put up PERP because it's normally fixed in a day or so. Anyways the servers are all online again and I fixed an error I made in the PlayerDisconnect hook, sorry about that.

I did some stuff which I've been meaning to do for a while now.

Code:

Pot leaves are now clientside to free up edicts.
Pot plant physics are slightly more suited to the size of the pot.
Doors no longer lock when a property is sold.
Doors now unlock and close and then lock when a property is bought.
SWAT are demoted when the mayor dies from natural causes.(disconnected)
pp_pixelrender has been removed.

So if you haven't noticed, the servers have different names and have passwords on them. There's a reason to this, it's now located on a different box at another IP.

So you might be asking, what does this mean for me? Well, it really means a lot of things. For one it's a better box, that means it any if our old box was being overloaded this one will do the job much better. Over the last couple weeks I have been playing with the firewall rules and some of the more popular things which had worked previously against the servers will no longer work. On top of the new datacenter not being shit all over in a corner of softlayer and having random outages. This will also mean that we shouldn't have to deal with null routes over DoS that never reached the box anyways as well. Oh and this box is also cheaper lol.
